Giving at Thanksgiving

Giving at Thanksgiving

November 27, 2009

Dear Friends,

I extend my personal thanks to you this Thanksgiving weekend… thanks for your involvement and contributions to this wonderful campus of the University of California.

I trust also that you have an opportunity to connect and give thanks – in person or virtually – to your families and friends.

I believe that we should also give thanks that we are part of this great university and reaffirm our commitment to work together to ensure its excellence and access by all deserving.

We know of the significant challenges facing the University today, but they cannot obscure the wonderful opportunities that exist for our students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

I also wish to share with you that, with so many members of our community facing challenging circumstances this year, my wife Karen and I have decided to cancel our annual holiday gathering at the residence this year.

Rather, we are redirecting these resources to provide support to members of our staff hit hardest by the budget cuts, as well as needy community members at large, for holiday food and children’s gifts.

We also plan on giving some of our time to help others during the holiday season. We invite you to consider doing the same in your community.

Here in Riverside a great resource is the Volunteer Center of Riverside County: http://www.vcrivco.org/. I suspect similar organizations/websites are available in your area.

Best regards,

Tim

Wanted to make sure you saw the piece in The New Yorker about the important role our Citrus Variety Collection plays in the tastes and smells of beverages and perfumes. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/11/23/091123fa_fact_khatchadourian
