Chancellor's Friday Letters

Recovering well

Recovering well

February 18, 2011

Dear Friends,

It’s been a heck of a week.

I started out Monday feeling terrific after having a stent placed in one of my coronary arteries at the end of the previous week. But by noon, I thought something was amiss. And sure enough I needed two more unexpected procedures on my heart. One occurred on Monday afternoon and the other in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

I am very grateful to my cardiologist, Joseph Quan, M.D. of Riverside Medical Clinic. I am also grateful for the outpouring of good wishes, concern and affection from members of the UCR campus and the surrounding community. Your support has been both deeply touching and profoundly encouraging.

I returned home last evening, and am feeling stronger and better every day.

I plan to be back on campus soon and look forward to resuming my efforts on matters we all care so deeply about.

Thank you all for your concern.

With regards,

Timothy P. White

Bring your own voice and join us on campus, Tuesday. UC Riverside will host an advocacy write-in February 22 to collect the many voices associated with UC Riverside and deliver them to Sacramento. Pens, paper, talking points and addresses will be provided; you just bring your own voice. The event is a joint effort of the Academic Senate, Staff Assembly, Graduate Student Association and ASUCR. The letters will be hand delivered the next week during UC Day, March 1.

World Ranking Highlights UCR Researchers
Congratulations to three astoundingly accomplished faculty members in chemistry: Mikhail Itkis, a research engineer; Yadong Yin, an assistant professor; and Distinguished Professor Robert Haddon. They were named in a ranking of the 100 top chemists of the decade, based on the productivity and the influence of their work. It is a further point of pride that Assistant Professor Yin is also ranked second in the world among materials science researchers.

Come Home to UCR
Homecoming week will include not only the big basketball game and a bonfire, but also a huge concert, small reunions and tours and a tailgate party. If you like a good game and you have a voice to yell, come cheer on the Highlanders during homecoming.
